  I am a member of the Executive (and a past Chair) of the Federal Litigation and Dispute Resolution Section of the Law Council of Australia (the peak body for Australian lawyers). I Chair the LCA's national Federal Court Liaison Committee and its Federal Circuit Court Liaison Committee. I am a member of various competition and consumer law, franchising and intellectual property law organisations, including the Franchising Council of Australia, the Licensing Executive Society (Australia and New Zealand) and the Communications and Media Law Association. I am also a past President & Honorary Life Member of the Australian Institute of Management (SA) & fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

  A partner in the national Dispute Resolution team of Australian law firm Thomson Geer, I have broad experience in the management and resolution of Australian and cross border commercial disputes. As an accredited mediator since 1993, I have mediated a wide range of commercial (and other) cases in and across various Australian State and Federal jurisdictions since that date. I am a member of the panel of mediators maintained by the Resolution Institute, a not for profit organisation of more than 4000 mediators in Australia, New Zealand and the Aisa Pacific and the panel maintained by the Law Society of South Australia. I have been a member of the national panel of franchise mediators administered by the Commonwealth Office of the Franchising Mediation Advisor (OFMA) ince that panel was established and regularly mediate franchise disputes by appointment of the OFMA.
  I graduated from Adelaide University with an Honours Degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1980. I am admitted to practice law in all Australian state and Federal jurisdictions. I completed formal mediation training with LEADR in 1993 and became a member of its panel of mediators. I was accredited under the Australian National Mediation Standards when that standard was introduced in 2008/09 and have maintained that accreditation. I was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators in May 2014.

Admitted to practice law in South Australia and in Federal Jurisdictions in 1981. Admitted to practice in other Australian States 1987-89 and presently entitled to practice in all Australian jurisdictions, state and federal. Accredited as a mediator in 1993.
An accredited mediator since 1992. Accredited under the Australian National Mediation Standards when that standard was introduced in 2009. A member of the panel of mediators administered by LEADR (a not for profit organisation of 2700 mediators in Australia and New Zealand), the panel of mediators for the Law Society of South Australia and the national panel of franchise mediators administered by the Commonwealth Office of the Franchising Mediation Advisor.

David is a partner in the national Dispute Resolution team of law firm Thomson Geer and conducts litigation and resolves disputes for clients across all Australian State and Federal jurisdictions.

David is a member of the Law Council of Australia (the peak body for lawyers in Australia) and its Federal Litigation and Dispute Resolution Section (and a past Chair of the Section). The Law Council's standing committee on ADR is a committee of the Section.

David is Chair of the Law Council’s national Federal Court Liaison Committee and its Federal Circuit Court Liaison Committee and through those committees (which meet regularly with the Chief Justice, Chief Judge and Judges of those Courts) has been extensively involved in the development of case management practices in the Federal Courts in Australia over the last 20 years.

David is a member of various competition and consumer law, franchising and intellectual property law organisations, including the Franchising Council of Australia, the Licensing Executive Society (Australia and New Zealand) and the Communications and Media Law Association.

He is a past President & Honorary Life Member of the Australian Institute of Management (SA) & fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

David was a member of the board of his law firm through the 12 years in which it expanded from Adelaide into Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and became one of Australia's top 10 largest independent law firms.

David is responsible for the development and implementation of Thomson Geer's national negotiation and mediation skills training program. This program is delivered annually and brings together Corporate and Litigation (Dispute Resolution) lawyers for joint negotiation skills training, after which those interested and with appropriate aptitude can proceed to a further 3 days of training that will formally qualify them under the National Mediation Standards.
